Women’s Collective Power, a podcast

It all started in June 2022 — Roe v. Wade was overturned! I had just returned from a trip abroad with my husband. I was settling back into my routine at home (unfortunately, that included a bout of covid) when I heard the news. How could this happen?! We, as women, have no rights when it comes to our own healthcare. I couldn’t believe it.

All I could think about was my daughters and how this would affect them as young adults. What could be done to help them, and all the women (young and old) who may one day face having to make the decision to have an abortion? I also thought about my niece who lives in the UK. She said that because of the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, she will not move back to the US to live. Maybe that’s what lit a fire under me to try and figure out what I could do to help.

Dawn (a good friend) and I sat down one evening over cocktails and discussed how we could help. We decided that it was time to go beyond donating, marching, or joining a group. It was time to step it up a notch and act. We decided it was time to start a podcast. We want to create a space for all those individuals out there who feel lost and hopeless; a safe space to gather and have a conversation; a space where one could scream if one wanted, and a space where we could brainstorm solutions. We also want to create a hub of resources for all those in need. We decided that we couldn’t just volunteer, it was time to be a vessel. We started Women’s Collective Power

We are still in the process of bringing it all together, including a website that will be a resource center for all those looking for providers (medical and pharmaceutical), therapists, attorneys, mental support, anonymous support groups, transportation, housing resources, and much more. We currently have three episodes up and ready for listening with more to come. And, if you’re interested in joining us and/or providing support, you can contact us at womenscp@gmail.com with any questions or comments. We hope that you will join us on this journey of empowering one another and making a difference.
