My Person

How does someone become “your person?” That person in your life that you go to when things get tough when you need a shoulder to cry on, that person who never judges you no matter what you have done or said. You would know deep down in your soul if the ground were to open up and start to swallow you “your person” would reach down and save you.  Maybe its the history you have, maybe you share a similar background, maybe you have been friends for years. Whatever it is there is just a connection that gives you a sense of security. You know that no matter what you encounter “your person” can somehow ease your pain by their words, a look, or a hug. In the same way, they help when you are down, they are there to share in your joy. They are your biggest cheerleader, celebrate your achievements, milestones and can cheer you on like no one else.  “Your person” isn’t necessarily your spouse or a parent or even family member. This person is someone that was sent into your life to help you navigate the challenges that you must endure and rejoice in your good fortune.

As for myself, I am fortunate enough to have more than one person in my life that I consider “my person.” The depths of the love that I feel for them is insurmountable, and through the ups and downs of my life, I couldn’t have managed without them. I cherish these people for who they are, the honesty, courage, and strength it takes to be there for me. In return, I hope I am able to fulfill the “my person” duties and responsibilities as eloquently as they have for me.

If you don’t’ know already quotes and affirmations are a large part of my life. I am always on the lookout for words that speak to me.  For this post, I have found a few that I hope to touch you as they have touched me.

“Thank you so much for being the one person I could talk to. Thank you for never leaving my side through the rough and ugly times. Thank you for being my rock. Thank you for being understanding. Thank you for being patient, kind, and friendly. Thank you for accepting me for who I was, and looking on the inside, not the outside. But most of all….thank you for loving me.”

“Friendship isn’t about who you’ve known the longest. It’s about who came and never left your side.”

“You’re still my person, even if I’m not yours.”

This post is dedicated to “my people”. I feel honored and blessed to have all of you in my life. I am in a better place now, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the love and support from each and every one of you. Thank you.

    • Thank you! Having good friends and people you can go to, understand you and never judge you is so important. The world would be a better place if there were more understanding and less judgment.
