Joy

In writing this post, I decided to first look at the definition of joy. I had always thought that happiness and joy were similar or the same, but have come to find that these feelings are very different. Joy comes when you make peace with who you are, why you are and how you are. Happiness is triggered by and based on other people, things, places, events, and thoughts. Joy comes from within. It’s defined as an attitude or a belief. The definition of joy also states that there is a formula to joy, and it lies in changing thought patterns. Meaning, what I do, think, and say every day determine how joyful I am. It’s got nothing to do with what’s around me, but everything to do with how my brain works. You could call it my inner voice. Joy is within me and it’s the best way of life I can hope to achieve.

So, how do I achieve joy? As I go through life, learn more about who I am and how I want to be as a person, I focus on what works for me. One of the ways that seem to work for me is to shift my focus and the way I think, to change my perspective when things don’t always go my way. Why fight or put energy into something or someone that you can’t change? There’s a phrase I like to use at times when faced with a challenge — take another tact! I’m learning more and more to let go of what doesn’t work for me. I think that when shift happens, life changes and that’s always good.

Will the achievement of joy take care of you when the challenges of life come along? I don’t know but I feel that having joy as part of your foundation, as part of your core, can only help to guide you and get you through the tough times. Life is not easy, and I know that I can use all the help I can get.

I’m still learning what true joy really means. But I feel the meaning will become clearer and clearer as I live my life. I may not feel it or see it all day, everyday, and that’s okay. So for now, I find joy in knowing that I have a loving family, great friends, and a community that I’m building through this blog. And, I live my life with gratitude knowing that my future possibilities are endless.

I have a question for you….how do you define joy in your life?

As always, thank you for taking the time to read our blog. We appreciate your time and support.
