It’s True, Life Is Short

I may have written about this in a previous post, but it’s worth repeating and it’s absolutely true — life is short! I’m now at an age when there is a lot of change going on. I’m getting older, everyone around me is getting older, and I’m losing loved ones. Those around me are losing their loved ones. When this happens, you start to reflect on your life.

Growing up I couldn’t wait to be an adult so that I could do whatever I wanted to do. Everyone older than me at the time would always tell me that as you get older time seems to go by so quickly. Now that I’m an adult I want time to slow down. Every year does seem to go by even quicker than the last. You celebrate a new year and the next thing you know it’s the holiday season again and time to ring in another new year.

In the last few weeks, I’ve been thinking a lot about my brother and his wife. Several years back my sister-in-law was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Even after trying new drugs and treatments, It has been a slow but steady decline for her. And to make things worse, a couple of months ago she was diagnosed with stage 4 cervical cancer. It’s heartbreaking and I know that my brother is devastated. She’s now in hospice care.

I visited them a few days ago. As much as I enjoyed spending time with them and getting caught up with my brother, it was sad to see my sister-in-law slowly slipping away. I could definitely see the difference in her from the last time I saw her. She doesn’t remember me. She can’t process her thoughts. One thing I’m grateful for is that she’s not in any pain. And with assistance, she’s able to still get up, get out, and enjoy her day. I can see the love between her and my brother. It runs deep.

On my drive home, I was flooded with lots of thoughts. Thoughts of how one should live their life because life is short and it could change in an instant. It’s up to each of us to make it sweet. If you want something, go for it. Don’t waste your time living someone else’s life. Create and live the life you want. Above all, live your life with gratitude.

As always, thank you for taking the time to read our blog. We appreciate your time and support.
