It Doesn’t Matter Anymore

Now that I’m older I find that I really have to pick my battles. Some things just aren’t worth battling over. What’s the saying — don’t sweat the small stuff. This is so true. I could probably write a list that goes on and on about what the small stuff is for me, but it doesn’t matter anymore.

As we all go through life, we encounter challenges and conflicts that need our attention, but not every challenge or conflict is worth fighting. Learning to pick your battles is an important skill that can lead to better relationships, increased productivity, and improved mental well-being. I know it can be frustrating going through the process, but I’m getting there and I will figure it out.

I try to think of it in this way — when I’m faced with a challenge, I look at it objectively. Is the issue really important, or is it just a minor inconvenience? I think about the possible outcomes and usually realize that if I take a breath, a good resolution will come with being patient, calm, and understanding. Staying calm and collected will help to guide my actions. And, knowing that some compromising will lead to a win-win situation for everyone involved.

You’ve got to know when to stand your ground and when to let go. It’s about putting yourself on the path of personal growth and being in harmony with all those around you.

“If you wish to live in peace and harmony with others, you must learn to discipline yourself in many ways.” — unknown

“We have to learn to live in harmony and peace with each other and with nature. This is not just a dream but a necessity.” — Dalai Lama
