Inspirational Quotes From Star Wars

I’ve been a huge Star Wars fan since 1977, when I saw the first movie, “A New Hope,” at the age of 14. All the subsequent movies and series that have come out since, and the new characters that have been introduced, have been amazing! It’s the iconic, funny, and sometimes inspirational quotes that are spoken by the characters of the Star Wars franchise that I love to quote myself, especially the real-life guiding quotes. So, here’s my list of Star Wars quotes that inspire:

“Do or do not. There is no try.”

Yoda said this to Luke in “The Empire Strikes Back” when Luke was doubting his Jedi abilities to pull his X-Wing fighter out of the swamp. To me, this is the most iconic Star Wars quote of all and so applicable to real life. Trying to accomplish any goal in real life depends greatly on your mindset. If your mindset is that you’ll “try” to accomplish a specific goal instead of “I will do it”, you’re already setting yourself up for a rationalization for not accomplishing that goal. “I will do it!” Not, “I will try.”

“The ability to speak does not make you intelligent.”

Qui-Gon Jinn said this to Jar Jar Binks in “The Phantom Menace.” If you’re familiar with the character Jar Jar Binks, you’ll understand. Jar Jar is a slapstick, rambling, CGI character that always has an opinion about everything. This quote is definitely an applicable quote in real life, especially on social media platforms. The things that I’ve heard some people say just blow my mind with the ignorance of their beliefs. Critical thinking skills don’t seem to be prevalent with many people these days. It’s very important to ensure I’ve got my facts double-checked before I voice my opinion about anything.

“Who’s more foolish? The fool or the fool who follows him?”

Obi-Wan Kenobi says this to Han Solo in “A New Hope”. This isn’t necessarily an inspirational quote but a very relevant one to what’s happening in politics today. The polarization of the two main political parties is at an all-time high and not necessarily because of conservative and liberal points of view on social and economic beliefs but rather because of “Wacko” talking points and accusations against the opposing group. Some political candidates are saying the most outlandish things about the opposing party, not based on any reality, and their constituents are eating it up and voting for them based solely on their candidate’s ability to bash the opposing party. It doesn’t matter how intelligent the candidate is or if they can even grasp the idea of governing. There are some very well below-average intelligence congressmen and congresswomen right now serving their districts that haven’t a clue or desire to pass relevant legislation, and yet they have a huge following. It baffles me.

“Truly wonderful, the mind of a child is.”

Yoda says this to Obi-Wan in “Attack of the Clones”, referring to the younglings’ innocence and their ability to come up with fresh ideas that aren’t tainted by wisdom. This quote is relevant to the pure and untainted-by-experience mind of a child. Younger children haven’t yet learned about failure or social norms, so their thought process is free to roam. Kids say the funniest and most direct things.

“Many of the truths that we cling to depend on our point of view.”

Obi-Wan Kenobi says this to Luke in “Return of the Jedi” when Luke has trouble grasping the idea of Obi-Wan’s belief that Anakin and Darth Vadar are not the same person. Another relevant quote that is SO TRUE because all our beliefs and ideas come from our past experiences and point of view. It’s important to realize that when having a conversation or debate with another person.

“Sometimes, we must let go of our pride and do what is requested of us.”

Anakin says this to Padme in “Attack of the Clones” when Padme is reluctant to hide in her home world of Naboo. I’ll put this one in the category of inspirational and relevant. Pride, at times, can be the destroyer of individuals and relationships. It’s good to have pride in yourself and the things you’ve accomplished, but when that pride comes with arrogance and self-centeredness, it can be a heavy burden on a relationship.

“This war represents a failure to listen.”

Padme says this to Anakin in “Revenge of the Sith” on the eve of the beginning of the clone war. This is one of my absolute favorite Star Wars quotes. Arguments, fights, and wars often happen because of a failure to listen. The failure of a group or individual to listen is usually based on their entrenched belief that their opinion is undeniably correct, and listening to the other point of view would be a waste of time.

And there it is. My list of Star Wars quotes to guide your life. They might just be lines in a movie script, but they hold value in an inspirational and life-relevant way. Words to live by.

However, if you’re looking for a couple of good insult lines from Star Wars, here they are:

“I’d just as soon kiss a Wookie!” – Princess Leia

“Why you stuck up, half-witted, scruffy looking, nerf herder!” – Princess Leia

“Impressive, every word in that sentence was wrong.” – Luke Skywalker
