Inspiration (repost)

Recently, I was reading some of my past blog posts and came across this one. I wrote it in June of 2020. I hope that you get something from it, as I feel it’s still relevant today.

********************************************************************

When I’m feeling overwhelmed and it kind of feels like I’m living in a hopeless situation, I look for words of inspiration. Quotes and affirmations that help me to feel hope again. Words that lift me up, bring me some clarity and bring me back to feeling that things can change for the better. I recently read something that said to replace “I can’t” with “What if”. Sometimes it’s that change in your perspective that makes all the difference.

With everything that’s going on in today’s world (pandemic, black lives matter protests, our economy, upcoming presidential election…I’m sure I can name more), it’s no wonder I’m feeling this constant cloud over my head. I know I’m not the only one that feels this way. It’s a cloud that umbrellas over everything that’s already going on in my life. This cloud heightens every emotion that I feel and skews my perception of things. That’s why I try to direct my thoughts and emotions into a more positive, motivated, and centered headspace. I try to remember to start my day with thoughts of gratitude, and I really do have so much to be grateful for…my family, my friends, my health, my creativity, and this blog!

But, I do realize that there are just some times in life when I won’t feel very inspired and that’s okay. There are times I may not have the power to change what happens in my life but there is the power that lies within me to change how I see what happens to me. And, it’s okay to give myself a break and treat myself with consideration, gentleness, and thoughtfulness; speak to myself with the same sort of empathy and warmth that I would show to someone I care about. It’s so important, especially for women, to stop putting ourselves last. To care for ourselves so that we can be strong for those around us. So, I’ll give myself a break, do a little self-care, and remember all that I’m grateful for.

How are you dealing with the world events around you and in your life? What are you doing to give yourself a little self-care?

With the events of the world, this quote from Maya Angelou spoke to me and I want to share it with you.

“You may shoot me with your words, you may cut me with your eyes, you may kill me with your hatefulness, but still, like air, I’ll rise!” — Maya Angelou
