A lot of things cross my mind as I write about this week’s topic. But when I do some soul searching and really look at what self-love means, I realize something. Self-love is not the external things I do for myself, like buying new clothes, getting a massage, or even reading something inspirational. It’s about living with intention and purpose. It’s about getting up in the morning with a positive attitude, feeling grateful for everything in my life, and ready to live a new day. It’s about appreciating myself by doing things that will support my physical, psychological, and spiritual growth. Without knowing it, I have been giving myself a little self-love all along.
I try to be mindful of what I feel, think, and want. I am mindful of who I am and try to act based on that and not on what others think or want. I’m a person who goes for what I need and not what I want. I need to be strong, centered and moving forward in my life. I try to practice self-care daily. Good exercise, nutrition, sleep, and my interaction with others is important to me. (I must admit that I do need to add more exercise into my daily routine.) It’s taken a while, but I’m learning to say no when needed. I don’t want to do anything that’s going to hurt me physically, emotionally or spiritually. Also, I surround myself with positive, like-minded people who support me. In turn, I support them.
Here’s a big one! And, I know this is hard for most people, including me. We all are just so hard on ourselves and we end up punishing ourselves for mistakes that we have made. It’s okay to forgive yourself. You’re not perfect and neither am I. I’m human and will make mistakes and I have to accept that. What’s important is that I learn and grow from my mistakes, and use what I’ve learned to move forward in my life.
I’m sure there are more examples of self-love and I hope to discover them all on my journey. But, as I have stated many times, I’m a work in progress. What are you doing or not doing to give yourself some love?
As always, thank you for taking the time to read our blog. We appreciate your time and support.
