Have you ever experienced knowing fair weathered friends? You know, friends who support others only when it is easy and convenient to do so. Or friends who would act like they want to hang out but never invite you to do anything and if you invite them to do something they will only do it if they can’t find something better. Or friends who stop being a friend at a difficult time in your life.
There have been times in my life where I thought I had found and had cultivated a really good friendship but it turned out not to be the case. I’ve had to make some decisions about friendships that were not easy. For one, deciding whether the friendship was worth keeping and then making the decision to end the relationship. Then how do you go about ending the friendship? I guess just back off gradually and hope you don’t hurt the other person. But then you wonder if they’ll even notice. Well, disappointment is all apart of life and you will have to experience it. But I have gotten to the point in my life where I don’t want to be the only one carrying the relationship. I don’t have time for it.
What I am grateful for are the wonderful true friendships that I do have in my life. Friends that I can count on in times of triumph and times of crisis. Friends who will always be there for me no matter what. The following statement says it all for me.
“A friend who understands your tears is much more valuable than a lot of friends who only know your smile.” – Unknown
Thank you to all of my true friends!
