Exercise Empowers Me

What empowers you? What makes you kick ass and take names? What gets you out of your funk and strengthens your resolve? Is there something you do that immediately changes how you feel, think, and act? We all have that something that gives us that strength and energy, that power to take a bad situation and make it better. The question is, what is it, and do we know how to use it?

Exercise is my superpower. I am athletic, coordinated, and pretty good at any sport I want to try. If I wanted to do it, I could. If only that worked for math, but that’s an entirely different topic. That accomplishment is a total high, and once you feel it, you have to have it again and again. My superpower is also an escape. It gives me power, energy, and a feeling of freedom. Exercise can also take me mentally and physically away from places I don’t want to be.

If I am depressed, all I have to do is go hiking in the fresh air, admire the beauty around me, and feel the earth beneath my feet. If I’m upset or frustrated, going to the gym, lifting, and pushing my body to its limits always releases the tension. If I have anxiety, hitting the beach to surf or walking along the shore brings calming energy. There is something about letting my body take charge, and the endorphins kick in so that my mind can stop overthinking. My mind has no option but to get in line with my body and realize what a badass I am. Within minutes my frame of mind is right where it should be. Exercise is a total mood shifter.

Not only can I use this superpower to empower me, cure me or take me away, I am also able to use my skills to motivate others. I can share my love of sports and activities and, in return, help them reach their fitness goals and find empowerment through physical activity. The cycle continues creating an energy field of growth and happiness.

There are times when I need a reminder to leave the comfort of my home and go outside. These are the times when it’s not only cold and dark out, but the darkness has set up camp in my heart and mind as well. I need a nudge, a reminder that it just takes one step, and I will be fine. So I grab my gear and head out the door, and just like that, my power is back. It’s a light switch, and I can turn it on. All I have to do is get off my ass and do it.

The beauty of being a strong, empowered woman is that your self-talk is impressive. You know precisely the words you need to hear, you know deep down you are enough, and no one, including yourself, will allow negative thoughts or comments to penetrate your mind, heart, or soul. You can give and receive love freely, experience joy, and spread kindness. You are who you believe you are.

So what empowers you? What makes you feel like you can conquer the world? Leap tall buildings in a single bound? Lift you when you are feeling down? What is the secret talent that makes you who you are? Once you know, put it to good use. You have one life to live, so let’s get to it.
