I chose to write this post because of what my family and I are having to face right now. My brother, Arnie, is in failing health. He’s lying in an intensive care unit with so many health challenges that I feel his time on this earth is limited.
Arnie has been on kidney dialysis for many years now. With that comes the possibility of complications. He now has pockets of fluid around his lungs which are not allowing him to breathe properly. So, he has a tube down his throat and connected to a breathing machine. He may not be strong enough to go through surgery to relieve it. He also has congestive heart failure, pneumonia, weakness, and he’s up there in age…73. Although in my mind, I consider 73 years old as young. My brother is not getting better.
Ultimately, my brother has to make a decision about his life. Whether to live the rest of his life connected to a machine or to make his transition. That’s a decision only he can make. Spiritually, I believe he is ready. We are all here as a family to love and support him.
Unfortunately, we will all have challenges to face in our lives, but we don’t have to allow those challenges to defeat us. All painful challenges will come and go through the natural process of life. I believe and trust that each challenge is here to help us grow and live the best life we can. My brother is happy with the life he has lived. I love my brother and will respect whatever he decides to do.
As always, thank you for taking the time to read our blog. We appreciate your time and support.
