What are your thoughts when you read this quote?
“The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are.” — Joseph Campbell
I start thinking of things like — “what do I want to be when I grow up?” (even though I’m now 63), “the past is the past”, and “how can I make my dreams come true?”. I don’t want to start thinking that I’ve missed my chance. There’s still so much life ahead to live. So much more I want to do.
I’m entitled to be myself, and to live a life focusing on myself is the privilege of a lifetime. Even with all the ups and downs that life hands me, I know I’ll learn lessons that will make me stronger.
It’s now 2023 and I’ve decided to kick things up a notch for myself this year. When it comes to being myself, I’ll try to remain more true to myself from here on out. It’s going to take work but I’m up for the challenge. By doing the following, I hope to reach my best potential.
Align with my values and beliefs. I want to be me and not align with the values and beliefs of others.
Build up my courage. It takes courage to be who you are, and I don’t want to just follow the crowd. No matter what happens, I’ll know how to handle it (cross my fingers).
Set my boundaries. I try not to let others walk all over me and take advantage of me. I’m working on getting to the point in my life where I know myself and the boundaries that I have set for myself so that my experiences are more fulfilling and rewarding.
Find my direction. I’ll find and have direction in my life when I’ve become more ME and who I want to be. I’ll then be able to accomplish my goals.
Remember that no matter what you experience in life, the only person that will always remain constant is you. I hope this post was helpful to you. I want to end with the following quote. “Yesterday is but today’s memory, and tomorrow is today’s dream.” — Kahlil Gibran
