I was having a conversation with a dear friend of mine the other night about life (as you do after a couple of cocktails), and I thought about how one’s life is constantly evolving. And, even in my sixties, I still find myself looking for something that I should feel totally passionate about. So, the question is…am I still on the right path? I’ve asked myself this question in recent months, specifically regarding “giving back and empowering” the women in my life, my community, and the world around me. Am I impacting the lives of others?
I know I’m on the right path when it comes to my family, friends, and work. I have a wonderful husband, two amazing daughters, and friendships that I cherish. And, I’m working in an industry that I love. Don’t get me wrong, there are still ups and downs, twists and turns, but at least this part of my journey is on track. I guess it’s my personal growth that I’m questioning.
Am I on the right path when it comes to how I give back to this world we all live in? I’m one of the founders of this blog you’re now reading, and one of the founders of our women’s group, Women Helping Others Advance. Both have been created to bring women together so that we can empower one another. I feel like I’ve been empowered by these amazing women I’ve met along the way. I just hope I’m doing the same for them. I hope that the opportunities that have been created to bring these women together have made a difference for at least one person out there.
I don’t think I’m traveling on a road less traveled. I’m sure there are lots of individuals out there walking a similar path and questioning whether it’s the right one or not. Are there opportunities that I have overlooked and should have explored? I don’t know. As I’m writing this, I’m thinking about the type of person I was in my twenties, thirties, forties, and so on. I’m thinking about all the changes I’ve been through and my growth. Is it the changes and growth of oneself that tell you if you’re on the right path? If so, then maybe I am.
I’m a much more positive person than I used to be. I try to live each day with gratitude. In fact, gratitude is part of the mantra I say to myself each day. And, maybe the other sign that I’m on the right path is that I see what’s going right in my life and in others. Also, I think we, as humans, have this sixth sense that lets us know when things are going right. Some call it your “gut feeling”, others call it “intuition”. I learned to pay attention to my intuition a long time ago…a lesson well learned.
So, I guess the answer is just to keep doing “ME” and moving forward.
